How you are messing up Christmas and How to fix it

by Joshua Arimi on December 21, 2009

I know you are reading this to justify that you are not messing Christmas. However, I doubt you will convince me. I amchristmas in Kenya sorry that I have already found you guilty without due process of justice.  I repeat jokingly that you are messing Christmas.

You are messing Christmas for your friends.

You are messing Christmas for your family members.

You are messing Christmas for your children.

You are messing Christmas for generations to come.

You are messing Christmas for innocent animals.

How else can you explain that you are not messing Christmas, when the minimum distance each of us will travel is 500 km. I know pretty well, that the wise men of the bible traveled from Far East. The wise men were geniuses, they never caused global warming; they rode on camels. Christmas is Christmas regardless of your location. Limit your detrimental effects to climate.

I feel pity for the innocent chicken, turkey and goats that will die on Christmas eve.

How to save Christmas

Christmas needs to be Christmas, not time for Breweries to make a kill. Christmas should not be a time for China to export containers of toys containing poisonous lead to America. Christmas is not a time to build up debts.

I have quick fixes for this Christmas.

1. Avoid materialism.

Materialism can be defined as a philosophy held by those who view that existence or life can only be explained solely in material terms, with no accounting of spirit or consciousness. They classify success in life in terms of how much you have which money can buy.

It is the high time we get back to basics. Life is complete with or without material wealth. Christmas should be viewed that way and only that way. Give spiritual and inspirational gifts.

2. Go to Church

Ideally, Christmas was for Christians. It was time for Christians to remember the birth of their saviour, Jesus Christ. Now, it seems that Christmas is even a time for capitalist robbers to break into our pockets. They are armed robbers; they need to be sentenced for life.

To save the dignity of Christmas, go to church and do what Christians do. Listen to the gospel attentively without wishing that it ends quickly for you to go and eat chapattis. During prayer, do not get distracted by thoughts of food that you will eat later in the afternoon. Prayer time, is time to talk to God, not to think of waters the sourced along Jameson river or Ruaraka river.

3. Show genuine love.

Genuine love is not measured by how much you give in terms of materials. Love is shown by how much you are concerned or how you can help at the time of need. Simply be there at a time of need. Be there to watch your kids play. Be there to watch your sick neighbour enjoy Christmas. Be there to see that street kid smile again.

If you do not have a gift to give to a friend or relative, visit them and openly explain your financial limitations. Let them understand that you love them with or without money. However, I know not many can gather courage to do; this because they are materialistic.

I am not sure if I can garner courage to do this as well.

4. Watch what you eat

I was told anti-acid drug companies make abnormal sales the day after Christmas, or is it boxing day? I have a chemist in the house, she says laxative sell in tonnes on and slightly before Christmas. I assume this year will not be an exception.

Watch that you do not to mess Christmas for yourself. Regulate eating and drinking habit.

Ration what you eat the same way Kenya and Powerless Company rations electricity. Make sure you do not pollute the air around you and others after failing to heed my advice of not overheating (sic).

Do not drink and drive.

5. Give me a gift of love

Finally, after you swallow two or three, make sure you discuss my informative website with all your friends. Show love to me by advising your friends to visit and subscribe to ChangeyourT.com.  This is the only way to show me love during this Christmas.

@ Pastor, sure as a Christian, I view Christmas differently from what media is portraying. It is my time to renew vows with my saviour.
