Drive …or drift

by Muthusi on March 11, 2011

At every moment in life, we are either driven by some positive energy from within or drifted by some outside forces.  In the former, we are in charge of where we end up, whereas in the later, external factors determine our destination. In one the one, we create our destiny, in the other, we resign to fate.

The difference between drive and drift is the glaring disparity between swimming and floating. Swimming involves going against the current, floating means being tossed back and forth …downstream. One is directional, the other is directionless. Whereas the swimmer needs to set a target of where to swim to, and often forces their way against the currents to get there, the floater is at the mercy of the currents, they take him where they flow.

The driver and the drifter could both have the same powers, but the driver has his power under control. That is the difference between a bull and oxen. Ones power can be destructive, the other constructive. Which one are you?

A man without direction (goal, focus) and a ship without a rudder (controls) have one thing in common; they drift to the shores of defeat, despair and despondency. If the ship would show some emotion, it would be dejection! You are either on a drive to destiny or on a drift to destruction. It’s all about being in charge, to get the results you want.

We were created to HAVE DOMINION over everything; to be in control, in charge, to lead, to rule over. Not be ruled! When you fall from your dominion seat, you start going ‘back and forth’. The result is activity without productivity, motion without movement. Perspiration without inspiration.

Get behind the steering wheel of your life and guard it jealously against the well-known enemies that beset you. Don’t let a heart break, a murky past, a weed, alcohol, money, lust, a circumstance, a situation, a condition or an emotion run your life.  DECIDE NOW, take CHARGE, DICTATE your DESTINY. Don’t wait for the right conditions …create them. ‘When you can’t adjust the direction of the wind, adjust the sails.’ You realize ‘those who wait for the right conditions will never get anything done’ when you take CHARGE, CHANGE is the result!

Take responsibility of where your life goes from now!  Remember from where you lost track, and pick up from there. Most of what’s in our lives today, we attracted. We experience today the effects of our yesterday’s causes. We live in the feedback (responses) of how we’ve lived. We are the results of how we appropriated our moments in the past. We are where we drove or drifted to! But that can change if we take charge and reach for the controls of our ship before hitting the rocky shores, we can get some sanity back to our lives. The prodigal son did, and he recaptured his dominion seat at his father’s house. But first he got back to his senses to see where his wrong choices had drifted him to.

A good driver knows why, where, when, with whom and at what speed they are going to drive. He understands some errors are fatal, and that he doesn’t need to run over another road user to get ‘there’. He knows the rules, and follows them, and knows what next after the first destination!

Let’s DRIVE …lest we drift!
