This is a wonderful article by Guest author- Steve Muthusi.
Freedom has a thousand charms to show, That slaves, however contented, never know. William Cowper
Every great country has a great history. More often than not, that history is a tale of its struggle for independence, freedom from colonies that enslaved men and women in their own land. The colonizers denied citizens their basic human rights and the privilege of owning and working on their land, enjoying their God given resources such as gold in South Africa, copper in Zambia, the rich soils of Kenya and Diamond in Botswana…the colonies decided how the colonized lived their daily lives.
The urge to be in control of their own affairs and determine their own destinies drove men and women to step up armed struggle to express their feelings. These simple people, who were poorly armed vowed [took a binding oath] to fight to the bitter end… for their freedom. These tales of struggle would fill volumes. That was freedom for nations. Today, there is great need for PERSONAL FREEDOM, to liberate our boundless potential!
We all are endowed with ‘rich deposits’ of talents, gifts, skills, callings, visions, aspirations that are going to waste because we are in shackles of drugs, captives of hatred, anger, greed, unfaithfulness, selfishness, low self esteem, bowing down to promiscuity and all kinds of character flaws, living in the cold prison of our negative thoughts and fear…ENSLAVED BY INVISIBLE CHAINS WHICH SUFFOCATE PERSONAL DREAMS.
Like an eagle whose wings are tied, so are men and women who are living in such bondages. They cannot soar to the heights of their potential. Eagles living like chicken cannot… ‘Discover, release and maximize their potential’
you know you are in bondage when someone or something else besides you decides your actions, runs your life and hence determines your destiny
Anything can entrap you mentally through addiction to it. You can imagine being in a prison while you actually are not. Having to fulfill an urge that you don’t approve yourself, before you can proceed on to accomplish a dream posses a limitation. What enslaves you? What torpedoes your every effort in the attempt to fulfill your dreams? Get off the chains that decelerate you on the road to destiny. If you were a kite, what would be the string that dictates how far you can fly? Are you a slave to the TV screen or internet pornography? Started with a cigar and now you are on hard drugs? Are marijuana leaves from the Caribbean running your life? Looking for fulfillment at the bottom of beer bottles? Inflamed by greed and lust… all these dictating how you are going to spend your precious life? The list of the things that controls the lives of some men and women is a long one;
Face your enslavers, put up a good fight and dare them vacate your territory. Do what needs to be done to lower their flag. Own your own destiny, free your life, sing your freedom song, hoist your flag and let it fly high. Dance to the rhythm of life, and stop following the beat of slavery. For those who are free, fly. For those who can identify with any form of bondage, you need to start the difficult by necessary journey to freedom. True freedom demands… ‘Great responsibility, accountability, a spirit of stewardship, maturity, wisdom and character, and it comes with a price’…don’t be ‘a great lion in a cage’, break loose and roar. The lion of the tribe of Judah lives in you…

Steve, this is a great article. I am re-reading it the third time. Trying to figure out all aspects in life that I enslave myself. Thanks for the insight. I choose to banish my colonisers!
This reminds me of Mr. Gitobu perspective to life, you ar the custodian of ur destiny. You hold the rope to aid u fly high or chain u to slavery. Its a matter of choice.
joyce , you are right
Amen! Lack of freedom grows into FEAR which then grows again to having very low esteem which denies the chance to actually move on, wen the same person if motivated cud actually b very successful n discover he/she had the potential to go further.
so we cut off the chains…and sing we are free to fulfill our purpose.
you can fight for your freedom where there is absolute security
