My life in pictures

by Joshua Arimi on December 6, 2009

This is a special post to celebrate my graduation with a PhD degree in Food Science on 7th Dec 2009.

In my life, I have been inspired and motivated by looking at people who have achieved or hold values that I long for.

These people are my mentors. I model my life on their values and their ways of life. By doing so, I have been able to do things which I could not have done on my own.

I will name a few of those mentors here. The list might not be conclusive. Please pardon me if I happen to forget your name.

My parents, late Dad, Mr. Arimi and late Mum, Cathy. You are no longer with us, but your legacy lives.  You taught me the importance of education. I know you are witnessing my achievement from wherever you are.

My lower primary teacher, Mrs Kibang’a. You showed me how to hold a pen and wiped my running nose.

My brothers Geoffrey, Samuel, James, Peter, Kim and sister, Martha. You held my hand during those first steps in life and up to now you are doing the same.Thank you.

Kathera Methodist Church and Kathera primary school you offered academic and spiritual nourishment that fed me into a man I am today.

Mrs Gikunda aka Gicetira or et cetera, as my class teacher in upper primary, you may never know it ,but you modeled me into a respectable man.

Mr. Mutwiri aka Beast, you were my headmaster at Kanyakine. I remember you for many things, but the most memorable was the strokes that you battered me.

Dr. Makokha, you were my parents in JKUAT.

Prof Hendrickx of KU Leuven. You taught me glass transition.

Prof. Dolores of UCD, Describing you with words will limit you. Let me just say you are amazing.

Mr. Michael O’sullivan of UCD, You understand many scientific facts in great detail to the extent that you criticise even the word ‘the’. I hope this does not offend you in any way. You are the one who accepted and welcomed me to UCD. You are special to me.

Dr. Elaine, may God shower you with blessings.

To my dear wife Eunice, you inspire me with your patience and understanding when storms are ranging. Yo are the firs I see when I wake up and the last I see when retiring. Soon you will be a PhD holder. Congratulations in advance.

To Victor our son, You make me smile even when I am hard-pressed. You smile is lighting up our lives.

To God, you have always granted me good health, strength and ability to keep going even when all signs suggest otherwise.

To my friends: You added colour to rather boring life. I will hold you tight in my memories.

To the readers of this post:

Probably you are struggling to achieve something but there is nobody to show you the way.

May be you are at crossroad, wondering what to do next.

May be you wish there is somebody you can look up to.

I have put my life together in pictures, hoping that this will inspire you or motivate  you towards your goal. There is a total of 40 photos (I am sorry, I removed the photos after making the blog very slow, again sorry) carefully selected to give you my image and aspirations.

To view the slide show below, you can rewind or forward using the navigation bar at the foot of each photo. To call the navigation bar, move the mouse over the photos. Enjoy.

Your comments are highly valued.  Please make a suggestion, complain or leave a compliment below.

Hi Robert, I am happy to hear your resolution. It is good to explore the immeasurable possibilities in life. I am sure we will meet one day and share a cup of coffee. In Feb, I was able to meet some of the readers of Change your T for a cup of coffee. Keep well, I believe big things are the way.

Hi Joshua,

I am really glad for you two, Having been your CU mom at JKUAT and seeing how far you two have grown gives me fond memories and hope of the capability to achieve that which I desire in life.

Tell Eunice I am still mom and She owes it to me (Lightly).

The best in raising a son.

Obvious you were an academic giant right from our old school days at Kanyakine. This has confirmed and further proven that your capacity asks for something more. To add to this, your well balanced life that most scholars lack is a lesson to many. Congrants as you all celebrate this life time achievement.
